The quake's center was pinned down at a distance of 83 km (52 mi) from the city of Khash

This April 16, at 10:44 UTC, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the country on Iran. News of this shake comes shortly after the country was hit by one other 6.3 magnitude quake.

Information made available to the public by the USGS says that the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 9.4 miles (15.2 kilometers).

Its epicenter was pinned down by specialists at a distance of just 86 kilometers from the city of Khash.

Other nearby cities located close to the earthquake's epicenter are Iranshahr in Iran (168km / 104mi), Zahedan in Iran (192km / 119mi), Rudbar in Afghanistan (232km / 144mi) and Muscat in Oman (606km / 377mi).

For the time being, information concerning this earthquake is scarce. Still, it is to be expected that more news will shortly follow.

According to some sources, at least 40 people have died because of this earthquake. The quake was reportedly felt across the Gulf and in the Middle East.
