One former contestant on “The Biggest Loser” reality series showed the public that age has little, if anything, to do with losing weight or, for that matter, achieving a goal. 64-year-old Jerry Hayes, who was booted from the series on the second week, took home the special $100,000 prize for the most considerable weight loss in eliminated contestants, LA Times informs. His example speaks volumes as to what determination and positive thinking can do.

Hayes and his wife, Estella, were both booted from the show once it became clear that the workouts at the ranch were more than they could take. Jerry, for once, collapsed shortly after starting the routine and had to leave the competition – but that did not stop him from continuing with the program at home, which is how he achieved the impressive goal and got to reveal his stunning physique on the finale of the show. His example should stand as irrefutable proof, he says, that age has nothing to do with weight-loss and all that usually slows us down is our own negative thinking.

“Don’t let your mind stop you.” Hayes said upon being presented with the prize, as per the aforementioned publication. He also revealed that what had stopped him in the past from losing weight was his own negative outlook on his own possibilities. He often thought “I can’t do this, and I can’t do that,” so it was here that he operated the first change, by starting to think positive thoughts for once. “It is possible.” the former contestant explained.

When he joined the competition, Hayes weighed 369 pounds. By the time the show ended, he weighed 192 pounds, which means he lost 177 pounds, or about 48% of his body weight. Wife Estella lost 83 pounds, getting down to 159 at the final weight on the show’s finale.

While Jerry Hayes’ example is certainly awe-inspiring and motivational, it is not the only one to make headlines. A 83-year-old Australian granny caught the attention of the international media for being the only yoga instructor of this age still able to perform poses that not even some of the younger practitioners can pull off. Her example too should be a testament to the fact that the “body is just an instrument,” as she herself put it not long ago.
