Apple has a hard time convincing customers to upgrade to the latest-generation iPhone models, and this is why devices like iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 are still being used worldwide, and now a new report reveals that Apple fanboys really don’t give up on their iPhones too easily.

A research conducted by Newzoo reveals that no less 62.6 percent of all iPhones that Apple sold since the debut of the first model in 2007 are still being used today, which is both good news and bad news for the Cupertino-based technology company.

On the one hand, it shows that its customers truly love the iPhone, but on the other hand, this highlights one of the company’s bigger problems, as users refused to upgrade and buy the latest generation devices.

Apple has sold 1.163 billion iPhones in 10 years, which represents 15 percent of all global smartphone shipments, according to the research. In April alone, 25 percent, or 1 in 4 phones used worldwide were iPhones.

iPhone 6, still number one

Apple certainly wants to see the glass half full, so the good news is that the iPhone 6 is the number one model with 21 percent of the phones being used in April, followed by iPhone 6s with 18 percent. The latest-generation iPhone 7 is third with 11 percent, while iPhone 6 Plus is next with 9 percent.

Older devices like the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5 are no longer among the most widely used, and that’s certainly good news, but on the other hand, the iPhone 7 Plus is nowhere to be seen, which shows that Apple’s strategy of offering exclusive features, like the dual-camera system, on just a single model does not pay off.

The next iPhone lineup is projected to be unveiled in September this year with 3 different models, namely the iPhone 7s, the 7s Plus, and the brand-new iPhone 8 that’s expected to generate a more substantial upgrade cycle for existing iPhone users sticking with their older models.
