This year’s iPhone generation will include a more affordable 6.1-inch model that may come with an LCD screen and lack features like a dual-camera configuration in order to reduce the price.

According to people with knowledge of Apple’s plans, this particular model might be launched in several new colors as compared to the traditional iPhone lineup, including some versions borrowed from the iPhone 5c.

Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already suggested that Apple could choose white, gold, orange, grey, blue, and red for the new iPhone, and a report from Japanese site Macotakara seems to corroborate this information, but with slightly different versions.

It looks like Apple is currently considering launching the iPhone in white, flash yellow, black, blue, bright orange, and taupe, with a red version not among those mentioned by Macotakara. There’s a chance, however, that Apple would launch a special-edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone and thus complete the lineup of colors.

Lower-cost, not low-cost, iPhone

Whatever the colors that Apple will choose would be, it’s pretty clear that this is one way that the company wants to use in order to differentiate the more affordable iPhone from its premium siblings.

Apple will also introduce a new iPhone X alongside a Plus-size configuration, possibly called iPhone X Plus. All three models will share a similar look, with edge-to-edge displays to be used, also without a home button and with a notch for Face ID.

The more affordable version, however, will lack several important features as part of the cost-cutting process, and Apple is believed to also consider removing 3D Touch and wireless charging.

Pricing of this model could be around $699, with people familiar with the company’s plans indicating that the new iPhone X may also come with a price cut versus the previous model, particularly thanks to Apple seeking new suppliers for OLED panels.
