Two fifth grade students will be tried for planning to murder a classmate after they were dubbed competent to face the consequences of their actions.

KXLY describes that Stevens County Superior Court found the Colville boys fit to attend trial on Friday, March 29.

The pair hatched a plot to shoot a female classmate and attempted to pay another student for his silence. They tried to offer the third student $80 (€62) when he found out about the plan.

The boys had sketched out the details of the murder over a period of two weeks. Authorities were alerted of their intentions on the day that they had set to go through with it, after being called in by another student.

"He said he was supposed to use the gun to keep everybody away, while (deleted), he said at that point (deleted) was going to kill her," he said, according to school counselor Debbie Rogers.

One of the juveniles had snatched a weapon from his house, in preparation for the event. A knife has also been discovered in one of the boys’ school bags.

"I asked him about the gun, where he had got the gun and he said he had stolen the gun from his brother's room and that his brother has stolen it from his grandfather," describes Richard Payette, working as a teacher's aide at the school.

Once questioned by Colville Police, the boys admitted to premeditating the girl's rape and murder. Their identities or motivation for committing the crime have not been disclosed at this point.

"Both explained to me that they had been planning this event about two weeks before that date and on the date we made contact with them and interviewed these students, it was going to happen that day," Officer Scott Arms says.

However, police did explain that the motive for the killing stemmed from their anger over the girl mocking them on the school bus.

They have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, juvenile possession of a weapon and tampering with a witness.
