Storage on the move

Japanese peripheral manufacturer Buffalo recently came up with a nice storage solution for users who like having their data close to them even when on the move. If you are thinking about a laptop or a notebook computer system, then you are sadly mistaken, as we are talking here about a SSD (Solid State Drive - for those of you who despise acronyms). As it has only 60 grams of weight it is the perfect tool for data transportation when your laptop or Internet link is not available.

Inside the small (only 57?89x14mm) bright silver and black casing there is a Solid State Drive with an astonishing 56GB worth of storage space. Having a slim and thin external form factor, which is just a little bigger than a standard credit card, helps the Buffalo Solid State Drive meet the mobility requirements of every computer user. Even if the Buffalo external storage unit does not have the great capacity of some other Solid State Drive units (like the PQI made ones), its capacity is more than adequate for the average office worker and anyway, external SSDs do not get much bigger.

All the mobility of the Buffalo Solid State Drive comes with a price that is not exactly cheap, but given the general price trends in the computer hardware market, the price should drop to a more accessible level in a few months. Depending on storage capacity, its pricing ranges up high to the $800 mark for the 56Gb model. For users less inclined to spend so much money on a single piece of hardware (when there are much, much bigger hard disk drives around) the engineers from Buffalo designed models with 8GB, 16GB and 24GB that will be available in the late July or the first days of August. The release date of the 56GB model still remains a mystery.
