A $56,000 (€42,068) reward awaits the person who can help police officers in Costa Rica figure out who is responsible for the death of 26-year-old Jairo Mora Sandoval.

As reported, the 26-year-old conservationist was brutally murdered after being kidnapped while he was walking the beaches in Costa Rica, looking to keep turtles and their eggs safe from poachers. Mongabay reports that the reward has upped to this impressive sum over these past few days, after several green-oriented groups agreed to chip in and help catch Jairo's killer.

“There can be no higher priority than protecting those who dedicate their lives to protecting others; we call on the government of Costa Rica to redouble its efforts to find Jairo’s killers,” wildlife biologist Todd Steiner wrote in a statement.

Presently, local police officers only know that Jairo was kidnapped and tortured by five individuals.

All of them were wearing masks when they attacked the conservationist, so eyewitnesses can't provide much useful information for the police to work with.
