14 DAY TRIAL // 53-year-old anesthetist Niaz Ahmed has been accused of touching young girls inappropriately during his time volunteering in a medical tent at a firework display.
The man from Newcastle, in the UK, would approach teenage girls and come on to them. The prosecution is accusing him of rubbing himself against a 16-year-old girl and touching a 16-year-old's upper legs.
He is being tried for two counts of child abuse, and is pleading innocent. He does, however, admit to an exchange of innuendos with the girls that looked older than their age.
Ahmed's attorney stated that the girls were the ones starting the harmless banter.
“It was the complainants, the defendant says, and others who made [the] remarks, not him, and the whole group was reveling in his uncomfortable state,” he stated in court.
Not knowing how to handle the situation, Mr. Ahmed touched a girl's bum, as a joke, the Daily Mail informs.
“Mr Ahmed said he was uncomfortable and did not know how to react to this situation and he decided to play along with he joke and very briefly touched each girl on the bottom,” he explains.
