Many adopters still can’t use the new Start menu

50 days have passed since Microsoft pushed the go-ahead button for Windows 10, and during this whole time, many users have struggled to solve all kinds of problems caused either by the upgrade from a previous operating system, by incompatible drivers, or simply by the new features developed by the Redmond-based tech giant.

One of the most awkward problems that are still experienced by Windows 10 users affects the Start menu, the action center, and the volume icon, which don’t seem to work no matter how many reboots you’re ready to try.

Posts on the Microsoft Community forums and pointing to this problem are now covering 45 pages, and Microsoft has said absolutely nothing other than “this issue might have occurred due to some corrupted system files.”

So a company support engineer recommended users to do a system scan and update the drivers. Unsurprisingly, this doesn’t make any difference, so many users are still struggling to make their Windows 10 desktops work correctly.

A full reset could be the solution

There are users who decided to go for the most extreme workaround and reinstall Windows 10 completely, and some claim that this actually fixed the problems.

But what’s really awkward is that, on the same machine with several user accounts, some can launch the Start menu and others don’t.

“I created another user account (another admin) and logged in to that to see if anything changed. And, everything seems to work fine on that account. Downside being all of my user files can't really be accessed there,” one user explained.

Son in case you’re experiencing the same problem, you might want to try creating a new administrator account and then log in from there. Of course, you also need to make files visible to make sure that you can access them from your new account.

Obviously, more information from Microsoft would really be helpful, so let’s just wait and see if Microsoft comes up with a better solution.
