50 Cent scraps “Black Magic” dance album, says he’ll return to hip hop

Rapper 50 Cent has long made up his mind that he will not, under any circumstance, allow the world and the media to put him in a box and never allow him to step out of it. As such, he’s dedicated himself to making movies and, as of late, working on a new album that would be the exact opposite of what’s he’s done so far: a dance album, as we also informed you a while back.

Fiddy himself let his fans know that, inspired by the music he heard on his many trips around Europe, he’d come to the decision of releasing a dance album. Consequently, he said goodbye to hip hop for a while and worked intently on “Black Magic,” which was supposed to be his next release. According to Contact Music, though, the crossover (as regards sound, of course) will not happen as predicted, since 50 Cent has just scrapped the entire album.

“50 Cent is considering scrapping his upcoming album because he has grown tired of his new dance sound. The rapper embraced a new musical direction for Black Magic, due for release later this year (10), with many tracks inspired by the upbeat European nightclub hits which he discovered during a recent promotional tour of the continent. But 50 Cent has grown less fond of his work since returning to his native US and is now considering ditching his dance album in favor of a more traditional rap record,” Contact Music writes.

Fiddy’s own words would seem to indicate the dance album is no longer happening. “I’ve written an album that’s called Black Magic, but I am not sure it will be my next album. Since I’ve made it back to America after recording in the UK and different territories since I was on the road, I started writing different material that don’t [sic] quite fit that concept. Black Magic had a different style to it, a different vibe. I was playing with different song structures, music from different genres... I did some things that were a little dance inspired, the tempo was higher. Just playing with a lot of things. Since I got back, I’ve been writing things that don’t fit that [concept],” 50 said in a recent interview cited by the aforementioned music e-zine.

Then again, it could be that “Black Magic” has only been pushed back indefinitely. 50’s words could also be interpreted as a confirmation that his next album will be a rap one, but that a dance material will also come – just later on.
