Things haven’t been that great for 50 Cent musically for some time now, in the sense that he never quite got to top his earlier success. The rapper has finally decided to go indie, parting ways with Interscope and the Eminem imprint Shady Records.

In a statement cited by The Guardian, Fiddy says that his next album will be “Animal Ambition” and will come out on June 3, 2014 without having a record label: it will simply be made available through music distributor Caroline, which is owned by Universal.

However, he still owes Interscope another album, as per his old contract. The departure comes after a 12-year partnership, marked in the final years by inside feuding, with 50 Cent even taking to Twitter at one point to dish the dirt on what was happening at Interscope and to threaten to leak Dr. Dre music if he didn’t get a better deal.

“I have had great success to date with Shady/Aftermath/Interscope, and I’d like to thank Eminem and Dr Dre for giving me an incredible opportunity. I’ve learned so much from them through the years. I am excited to enter this new era where I can carry out my creative vision,” 50 Cent says, putting all animosity aside for one second.

Eminem also adds a few nice words, saying, “Shady simply would not be what it is without 50 Cent. I’ve developed a great friendship with 50 over the years, and that’s not going to change.”
