In Korea, where else?!

For folks in Europe and the American continent, the idea of having a 5 megapixel cameraphone seems detached from a S.F picture which they know little of.

Even if the first cameraphone bursting a 5 megapixel sensor was displayed almost two years ago at CES, such high-end terminals are available only over in Asia, especially in South Korea.

The competition for the 5 Megapixel cameraphone title opposes Samsung to LG, both fighting over a market which already absorbed over 300.000 units of such high-quality cameraphones. Samsung and LG are neck-in-neck, the latter claiming it has the Turning Dica Phone (SV550, KV5500, LP5500) to thank for this success, all the models of the series having sold over 150,000 phones to date. That's quite impressive considering that these products have been launched only last August. The company emphasizes that their success can be attributed to designs and functions catered specifically to customers' needs.

Samsung is competing against all the top dogs in the business, so how could it accept defeat from LG? Its first 5MP camera phone was released in November 2004, but a better model, the 7-megapixel V770, is now the company's flagship, as it has already sold 10,000 units. Still, this is just the beginning for Samsung, since there are rumors about new 8-megapixel phones being presented very soon, maybe even this month? In Korea of course.
