Use water, potassium nitrate and sugar to create the fuse

A video posted this Saturday and coming just in time for July 4 celebrations shows us how to make our own sparklers, which can burn for up to a minute.

This clip was uploaded by user Grant Thompson, who demonstrates a simple trick to make your own sparklers.

He uses water, potassium nitrate and sugar to make powder for the fuse. Cotton yarn is dipped in the mixture to make it burn. The flammable material will be held with clothespins.

You can also make any kind of sparkler burn underwater by wrapping it up with tape.

As they contain oxidizers, they burn even when they do not come into contact with oxygen, unless they are put out by the water.

I do not encourage children to try this at home when they are alone.
