Zbigniew Konojacki‏, the creator of the 4MLinux project, informs us today on the immediate availability for download of the Beta release of his upcoming 4MLinux 24.0 GNU/Linux operating system.

Development of the 4MLinux 24.0 operating system was kicked off two weeks ago with the release of the 4MLinux 24.0 Core Beta edition, on which 4MLinux 24.0 is based, as well as any other GNU/Linux distributions created by the developer, including TheSSS, 4MParted, 4MRescue, Antivirus Live CD, and BakAndImgCD.

Shipping with up-to-date core components, the 4MLinux 24.0 Beta is now ready for testing, powered by the long-term supported Linux 4.9.52 kernel and GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 7.1.0 compiler, which is used by default for all the apps included in the distribution. You can study the list of pre-installed packages for more details.

"4MLinux 24.0 BETA is ready for testing. Basically, at this stage of development, 4MLinux BETA has the same features as 4MLinux STABLE, but it provides a huge number of updated packages, including a major change in the core of the system, which now uses the GNU Compiler Collection 7.1.0," reads the release announcement.

Final release of 4MLinux 24.0 expected in March 2018

The final release of the 4MLinux 24.0 operating system is expected to hit the streets in March 2018. Until then, the development cycle will continue, and the distro should get more recent updates as they're pushed upstream. So whatever packages are shipping in the Beta will be bumped to new versions for the final release.

You can download the 4MLinux 24.0 live ISO image right now from our website if you want to take the GNU/Linux distribution for a test drive. According to the developer, this release will be supported until November 2018, and it'll become OLD STABLE in July 2018 when the 4MLinux 25.0 release hits the streets.
