4MLinux creator Zbigniew Konojacki was pleased to inform Softpedia about the availability of the second maintenance update to the 4MLinux 22.0 stable series of the independently developed GNU/Linux distribution.

That's right, we're talking about 4MLinux 22.2, which comes about a month after the release of the 4MLinux 22.1 update, and brings with it the long-term supported Linux 4.9.43 kernel, better support for removable USB drives, as well as updated programs like the Audacious audio player, Filezilla file transfer client, and the official Dropbox client.

"This is a minor (point) release in the 4MLinux STABLE channel, which comes with the Linux kernel 4.9.43," said Zbigniew Konojacki in the release announcement. "Additionally, some popular programs (Audacious, Dropbox, FileZilla) have been updated, too. 4MLinux 22.2 provides better support for removable USB drives to fix the problem reported here."

4MLinux Server gets updated components

The 4MLinux Server part also got updated in the 4MLinux 22.2 point release, now shipping with the Apache 2.4.27 web server, MariaDB 10.2.7 database server, and PHP 7.0.22 server-side scripting language for those who want to deploy a lightweight, 4MLinux-powered server on their infrastructures. Other updated server software includes BIND 9.11.2 and Stunnel 5.42.

Existing 4MLinux 22.0 and 4MLinux 22.1 users can upgrade to the 4MLinux 22.2 maintenance release as we speak by running the "zk update" command in a terminal emulator. The upgrade process is fully automatic, so you won't have to do anything else. Once the upgrade process finished installing packages, you are officially running 4MLinux 22.2 on your personal computer.

If you're new to 4MLinux and you want to download the latest release, go ahead and grab the 4MLinux 22.2 Live ISO image right now from our website. The 4MLinux 22 series will be supported until March 2018, but they will become "old stable" later this year, around November, when the 4MLinux 23 new stable series launches officially.
