4MLinux Allinone Edition, a Linux distro focusing on the Maintenance (system rescue Live CD), Multimedia (e.g. playing video DVDs), Miniserver (using the inetd daemon), and Mystery (Linux games) 4M editions, has just reached version 9.1 and is now available for download.

The 4MLinux maker has just released the stable version of 4MLinux Allinone Edition, bringing the development cycle to an end. It's been a little over a month since the previous Beta, but now the system can be considered complete and stable.

The 4MLinux distributions are among the smallest ones in the world and the same can be said about the Allinone Edition. It packs a huge amount of applications and packages, but the developer managed to keep its size to 218 MB, which is very small. The regular edition is a lot smaller.

You have to keep in mind that there are other operating systems much smaller than this one, but 4MLinux also comes with a desktop environment, it can be used as a Live CD, and it can be easily installed by anyone. Sure enough, you might find something smaller than 4MLinux, but not with all the amenities.

"The status of the 4MLinux 9.1 series has been changed to STABLE. The final release has all the features included in 4MLinux 9.1 Rescue Edition, 4MLinux 9.1 Media Edition, 4MLinux 9.1 Server Edition, and 4MLinux 9.1 Game Edition. Two major changes in the 4MLinux 9.1 series. The first one is replacing thttpd with Apache, meaning that 4MLinux has joined the family of LAMP servers."

"Skype is now available as a downloadable extension. UVC and gspca webcams are supported out of the box. The minimal build of PulseAudio (required by the newest Skype for Linux) has also been added,” said the developer in the official announcement.

Installing 4MLinux is quite simple and users can do it after testing the system as a Live CD. If you do choose to install it, make sure to give the OS a spin in a virtual environment, like VirtualBox for example.

The system is based on Linux kernel 3.12.23, but it's possible to upgrade the kernel after the installation. Users will also find an assortment of useful applications, games, and various tools in 4MLinux Allinone Edition that might not be present in any of the other flavors.

A complete list of changes can be found in the official announcement. Users can also download 4MLinux Allinone Edition 9.1 right now from Softpedia.
