This past Monday, Southern California got hit by a 4.7 earthquake that caused no damages and no injuries, and which many now refer to as an utterly uncalled for wake-up call.

Although initial reports stated that the quake's magnitude was one of 5.1, seismologists later on reviewed the data they had at their disposal and came to the conclusion that the shake had in fact been slightly milder.

Researchers working with the US Geological Survey explain that the earthquake's center was located fairly close to Palm Desert, California (about 16 miles south, to be more precise) and that the shake mostly affected the northeastern region of San Diego. Sources say that the people living in Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County also got to experience the shake, yet some of them pretty much slept through it.

According to the US Geological Survey, the rattle occurred at a depth of 13.1 km (8.1 miles).
