Even though it has yet to issue the official announcement, Hitachi appears to have finished developing its own hard disk drive with a capacity of 3 TB, the so-called Deskstar 7K3000.

With Seagate and Western Digital having already revealed and/or launched their highest-capacity hard drives, Hitachi appears to have also entered this competition.

So far, the company did not exactly issue a formal press release to trumpet the availability of its latest solution.

Still, the first two Hitachi 3 TB HDDs have been added to their maker's official website, along with all the information one may seek to uncover.

The less mighty of the two is the Deskstar 5K3000, which has a platter speed in the 5k mark (thanks to the Coolspin technology), as well as 32MB of buffer memory.

The major asset of this 3.5-inch storage solution is that it communicates with the computer itself via the SATA 6.0 Gbps connection.

The other newcomer is known as Deskstar 7K3000 and, as its name implies, has a platter rotary speed of 7,200 RPM (rotations per minute).

This one has the same SATA 6.0 Gbps interface as its sibling and there is also a buffer memory of 64 MB, plus a sound output of 6.8 Bels when active and 2.9 Bels when idle.

Both the Deskstar 7K3000 and 5K3000 are available in two extra storage options, the first one featuring 2TB and 1.5TB models in addition to the 3TB one, while the latter comes in 1TB and 2TB.

Unfortunately, the company has yet to provide any sort of information on the pricing and availability of the two newcomers.

Still, until this final bit of information becomes available, those interested by such high-capacity solutions will find all the details on the official product pages.

The Desktar 7K3000 can be found here, while the Deskstar 5K3000 is described fully here.
