3M figured that CeBIT 2011 was a suitable occasion for its newest industrial multitouch display to shine, so it allowed visitors to play around a bit with its largest model yet, one intended for multi-user tasks, among other things.

Those end-users following the news may have realized that CeBIT 2011, being held in Hannover, Germany, is not as rich in new devices as one may have expected.

Still, with Intel, AMD, NVIDIA and the like not doing much, it seems that other companies are enjoying more attention that would have otherwise been possible.

That said, 3M issued an announcement regarding its newest, large format touchscreens, even one with a diagonal of 32 inches, which the folks over at Engadget were able to take a shot at.

Apparently, the panel is the currently largest that 3M has to offer industrial installations where multiple users are expected to work on it at once.

On that note, the very wide viewing angle of 178 degrees is definitely an asset, as is the lack of lag (even though the recognition time is of 12ms).

There is also mention of a non-glare, "anti-stiction coating" which enhances visibility under direct light and also allows fingers to glide easily.

The company did not offer much in terms of specifications, but did announce the existence of what it calls Smart Pen, essentially a stylus that can be colored black, grey, pink or titanium silver (MHP-1000) or black, navy blue, pink and, again, titanium silver (MJP-3000).

“3M Touch Systems’ expertise in touchscreen technology gives us the knowledge and ability to create relevant accessories that further maximize the value of this technology,” said Chris Tsourides, business manager, 3M Touch Systems.

“The 3M Smart Pen is one of the most accurate and high quality capacitive touch pens on the market and we are excited to see how users will enable new and unique ways to use this technology on their touchscreen devices.”

What remains to be seen is how quick 3M is in getting the display into public locations.
