3Dlabs today announced the Wildcat Realizm 500 professional graphics accelerator. The new Wildcat Realizm 500 offers high-end graphics performance to Computer-aided Design (CAD) and Digital Content and Creation (DCC) professionals for an MSRP of only US$899.99. 3Dlabs is a wholly owned subsidiary of Creative Technology Ltd.

The Wildcat Realizm 500 provides twice the onboard memory (256 MB) of any competing mid-range graphics accelerator. Also touting superior graphics performance, the Wildcat Realizm 500 beats competing mid-range products on five SPEC Viewperf 8.1.0 viewsets, including the 3ds max-03 viewset, with a score of over 48 frames per second, which is 29 percent higher than the closest competing PCI Express-based product.

The PCI Express-based Wildcat Realizm 500 integrates a Visual Processing Unit (VPU) and 256 MB of high-speed GDDR3 memory on a 256-bit wide bus. Wildcat Realizm 500 is equipped with two, single-link DVI-I connectors, a stereo connector and two DVI to VGA display adaptors. The entire line of Wildcat Realizm professional graphics accelerators supports the OpenGL 2.0 API and Microsoft Windows XP 32- and 64-bit operating systems.

The Wildcat Realizm 500 graphics accelerator is expected to ship by the end of August from 3Dlabs' worldwide network of Wildcat System Integrators. General information about 3Dlabs Wildcat Realizm products can be found at www.3dlabs.com.
