Gartner expects good things from this new market field

Being one of the premier analyst firms in the world, Gartner always keeps an eye on new developments, and as far as new developments go 3D printers are one of the most promising.

According to Gartner, now that 3D printers no longer cost $100,000 / €100,000 or more, they will grow in shipments a lot.

In fact, in 2013 alone shipments will increase by 49%, all because of rapid quality and performance improvements.

Then again, this isn't so shocking. The 3D printer market was barely there in 2012, so this is more like a jumpstart for a new segment.

Kind of like what happened with 3D and 4K, only to a greater extent and without the likelihood of the products falling into obscurity soon after the initial wave of interest.
