The printer was made by SpritesMods and is meant to print shots for parties

Jell-O shots are really popular at parties, but they're not all that aesthetically amazing usually, being homogeneous more often than not, so the folks at SpritesMods set about providing a way to make them look cooler.

The method they came up with was a way to print designs in Jell-O shots. They took a bunch of CD-ROM drives, as well as a needle and a type of ink, and made a 3D printer out of them.

The machine isn't what you'd call glamorous, since it's basically made out of spare parts and scrap metal, but it's not supposed to be.

After all, it's not like people will come to your party to admire your weird inventions (unless they're techies passionate about things like those anyhow).

No, they'll be more concerned with admiring and ravenously devouring the Jell-O shots lined up on your party snack table.

Anyway, the unit was made from various parts and mounted on a wood board. A syringe needle was used to print the designs, mounted on the top as it was.

There are three stepper motors that move said needle around. In fact, what pushes the needle in the Jell-O is an actual syringe with a plunger.

The ink is, of course, edible, based on a mixture of corn starch, food coloring and banana liquor. It was heated in a microwave to turn into a gel though.

Finally, everything runs on the power of a 10v laptop battery, making the Jell-O Shot 3D printer portable. A fairly ugly portable item, but portable nonetheless. This way you can take it over to a friend's house when they're setting up their birthday party or something.

All in all, it's a bit much to actually call this SpritesMods Jell-O customizer a 3D printer, since it's ultimately the Jell-O that keeps the ink in place, but the thing does follow a pattern, so the underlying principle ultimately fits.
