That's one country with serious gun control laws

You might have heard about that man who was arrested in Japan a while back? Well, the follow-up to that arrest has finally come to light.

Yoshitomo Imura, previously an employee at the Shonan Institute of Technology, was arrested for creating and owning 3D printed firearms capable of firing real bullets.

The guns were made of plastic obviously, but it seems that simply producing them as an experiment was enough to earn him jail time.

This makes him the first person to be convicted for making 3D printed firearms. There were two guns, but the same model apparently: a ZigZag revolver with a capacity of six .38 caliber bullets. Imura actually posted the video on file sharing websites almost a year ago now.

The prosecution demanded a sentence of three and a half years for the man, but the judge didn't go for that long. Still, he punished the man for "[flaunting] his skills and knowledge and attempted to make gun controls toothless" with two years in prison.

A pretty harsh thing to do, since there was no indication that the 28-year-old former university employee was going to try and market the things or otherwise spread them around, but laws are laws we suppose.
