3D printing chocolate isn't that unheard of these days, and a US company just took to Kickstarter to fund the creation of customizable chocolates to surprise your loved ones.

Nestlé took it to another level though through a promotional contest to celebrate the new Android KitKat. The KitKat chocolate bar is made by Nestlé everywhere in the world except in the US.

The challenge, dubbed Chocnology, was to create the most imaginative chocolate bars possible using solely tools available for Android devices. The 3D models created with phones or tablets would then be printed out, in chocolate, via modified 3D printers.

“The coming together of two very different worlds – chocolate and technology – inspired the idea of creating chocolate artwork made possible through the use of innovative technology,” Kevin Corlett, business executive manager of Chocolates at Nestlé, said.

10 South African artists participated, and their creations will be displayed at the Museum of African Design in Johannesburg starting today and until Sunday.
