Since rolling out just one compact digital camera capable of taking 3D photos simply didn't feel OK with Panasonic, the Japanese company has decided to also unveil today yet another addition to the LUMIX FX family, namely the FX78 model that, despite of its ultra-compact form factor, packs plenty of attractive features on the inside. The imager comes equipped with a new LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMARIT, 24mm ultra-wide angle lens that has a 5x optical zoom with F2.5 aperture, accompanied by a 12.1-megapixel Hi-Speed CCD sensor and Venus Engine FHD featuring Intelligent Resolution technology.

The device also sports a 3.5-inch 16:9 aspect Smart Touch Screen LCD display that allows for the Auto Focus (AF) to be set by simply touching the subject on the LCD, as well as an extensive iA mode, that offers such features as Motion Deblur, MEGA OIS, Face Recognition, Face Detection, AF Tracking, Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector and Intelligent Exposure.

And in order to make it easier for users to share their photos and videos (1920 x 1080 full-HD video recording in AVCHD is also supported), Panasonic equipped the FX78 with the LUMIX Image Uploader application.

Plus, as mentioned before, it also supports Panasonic's 3D Photo mode, which can come particularly in handy for users who already own of the company's 3D-capable Viera HDTVs.

"With its super-bright and wide-angle lens, the LUMIX FX78 is a high-performing digital camera that excels in image quality, producing exceptional full-HD videos and still photos," said David Briganti, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company.

"With the new touch-screen operation, the FX78 is intuitive to use and allows the user to take a photo, track a subject and even touch-up a face with just the touch of the finger," Panasonic's rep concluded.

Although they don't provide any specific details on pricing and availability, Panasonic does inform us that their brand-new Lumix FX78 digital camera should arrive in stores over the course of March 2011, the available color options being black, gold and white.
