Smartphone ownership is now at 55%, with 95% owning a cell phone

If you weren't convinced people love tablets, here’s another survey that confirms it. This time, the research has been conducted by Pew Internet. The team behind the study managed to gather 7,000 participants, aged 16 and above.

The study found that 35% of people involved in the poll owned a tablet of their own. This represents a 10% increase compared to last year.

Results have also indicated that people are more and more willing to adopt high-end slates like Apple’s iPad. Even if Android slates manage to surpass the standalone iPad in terms of marketshare, Cupertino’s tablet is still number one when it comes to shipments and revenue.

Thus, higher-income households tend to extend ownership over a number of tablets, which includes eReaders like the Kindle or Nook. The number of households earning $75,000 (€54.820) and above per year and own a tablet has doubled compared to last year.

Tablet ownership might be on the rise, but everything comes at a cost. In this case, its PC sales that have been experiencing the repercussions, seeing their shipment numbers drop considerably.
