The company does not want to follow Final Fantasy's example

The Halo video game which is set to be launched in 2015 is identified using both a number, 5, and an additional name, Guardians, and it seems that the choice was made by the development team at 343 Industries with a clear aim in mind.

Bonnie Ross, one of the leading producers working on the series, is quoted by VG247 as saying that, at some point, the numbering system will be dropped and other naming elements will be used in order to allow gamers to know what to expect from the coming release.

Apparently, the game maker considered the idea as early as Halo 4, where the number was considered inappropriate because the story offered to the player was going in a new direction.

Bonnie Ross states, “It might still be a Master Chief story. I’m just saying, at some point we don’t want to be Halo 17, when Master Chief’s like 80. We’re not Final Fantasy, we can’t do it. So we kind of open that door – it doesn’t mean it’ll be a Master Chief story or not. That’s something for us to decide in the future.”

Recently, the voice actor who will play Agent Locke in the upcoming Nightfall live action series based on the Halo universe has suggested that in Guardians the focus will be on his character rather than on Master Chief, who is not the protagonist for at least the early part of the narrative.

A Halo for the new generation of consoles

Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be launched on the Xbox One home console from Microsoft on November 13 and will include the four core titles in the series, all of them upgraded in terms of both graphics and gameplay.

343 Industries has revamped the multiplayer of the series and offers both modern and classic modes to those who plan on getting the new package.

At the moment, there are no plans to bring the Halo Reach and the ODST titles to the Xbox One.

Those who get The Master Chief Collection will also get access to Nightfall and an invitation for the Guardians multiplayer beta, which will be delivered in the winter of this year.

Halo 5 is expected to launch in late 2015 and rumors suggest that gamers will get an upgraded arsenal and they will need it to take out a new set of enemies threatening the lifeforms of the galaxy.
