The University of Michigan is contacting 33,000 individuals whose personal information might have been compromised after hackers gained access to the systems of a third-party company.

According to a statement posted by Vendini, the third party in question, it detected a security breach on April 25.

Vendini offers box-office and online ticketing services to various organizations, including the Michigan Union Ticket Office.

Vendini representatives say the attackers hacked into their databases and accessed customer names, mailing addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers and expiration dates.

Fortunately, the company does not collect CVV codes and PINs. Usernames and passwords should also be safe.

Computer forensic and cyber security experts have been called in to analyze the incident. Additional security measures have also been put in place.

As a precaution, impacted individuals are advised to keep a close eye on their bank statements.
