One Pennsylvania resident found $30,000 (€23,300) in a bag of clothes handed down by her cousin and immediately thought to return the money.

The cash was stored among the belongings of the cousin's mother-in law. As she passed away recently, the bag found among her clothes contained what were probably the woman's life savings.

Carol Sutor of Bristol suggested that the elderly woman intended to deposit the money in a bank, but kept it inside the bag of clothes for safe keeping instead.

According to I Science Times, Sutor uncovered a smaller zip bag containing the money that lay hidden in a bigger bag, which was stored in an even large one placed in a canvas bag.

Even with a struggling business, Sutor explains that she believes in karma, and wouldn't have felt right holding on to the cash.

"I believe in karma, whatever I do will come back to me, good or bad. [...] You struggle in your business, like everybody's struggling. But when you struggle you think, oh, wow, if only I had money, my troubles would be solved. [...] It wasn't mine and I knew it, " she says.

Cousin Marlene Lattanzi reached the owner's son and let him know about the money, and he responded by giving Sutor a reward for her honesty.

"She calls her son-in-law, whose mother the money belonged to, you know, and tells him what happened. And you know what?

"Ten minutes later my cousin comes back and hands me $1,000 (€780) of the money. Her son-in-law said thank-you for returning his mother's money," Sutor describes.

"My guess is her intention was to put it in the bank. [...] One of the envelopes had a deposit slip in it, so I think she never got around to it after Sandy. I'm not surprised Carol was so honest," she adds.
