They need a few good men

Speculating on upcoming projects based on limited information is one of the favorite past times of videogaming fans and of those reporting game-related news. BioShock was one of the most lauded titles of 2007, so it's only normal to keep an eye on the developers of the Rapture-based shooter, the people working at 2K Boston.

Because 2K Boston is free of the burden of developing BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams, which is being worked on by 2K Marin, they must be working on something big, interesting and innovative. A hint came this week, as two new job ads from the company went up on Gamasutra. The company is looking for a multiplayer designer and for the lead multiplayer engineer for a fresh project.

Take a quick look at the requirements for the post, as seen on Gamasutra. The perfect candidate needs to be creative and able to "work with the single-player team to form a 'vision' of the multiplayer experience." Of course, those applying need to have previous experience in creating first person shooters with a multiplayer component and "understanding of online persistence is preferred but not required." A familiarity with MMOs is also a good asset to have.

It seems that the new project will use the now ubiquitous Unreal Engine 3 as a basis for development, 2K Boston being ready to use its own tools to address areas like gameplay, performance, platform, production, tools and quality assurance. The game will probably be developed for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC.

If the job descriptions are available, then it's probably safe to say that it won't be very long until 2K Boston and its charismatic leader, Ken Levine, offer us an official announcement regarding their current secret project.
