Video game and hardware maker Nintendo has announced that it plans to launch two new bundles on the European market featuring the very popular New Super Mario Bros in order to celebrate the 25 year anniversary of the launch of the original edition of Mario Bros.

On October 22 Europe will get the “New Super Mario Bros. Nintendo DSi XL Special Edition Pack”, which includes a copy of New Super Mario Bros and a red edition of the Nintendo DSi XL version, which has two cameras and a bigger than average screen, covered in character icons of Mario and his supporting cast.

The DS version of the game includes 80 levels and 8 worlds that players will need to explore in order to rescue Princess Peach from the evil Bowser.

One week later, on October 29, gamers will also get access to the “New Super Mario Bros. Wii Pack”, which is set to include a red Nintendo Wii home console, a red Wii Remote Plus and a Nunchuk of the same color.

Players will also get three video games, with the original Donkey Kong pre installed on the Wii and with Wii Sports joining New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii.

The Wii version of the title introduces four player multiplayer action to the game, mixing cooperative play, where all the character fight to get through a level, and competitive elements, with players competing to get the most coins.

Nintendo is keen to celebrate the history of the Mario character, who was created by Shigeru Miyamoto and first appeared on the Nintendo Entertainment Sytstem.

Since then the franchise managed to sell more than 240 million units all over the world, spanning spin offs like Mario Kart and Super Mario Galaxy.

Nintendo has been seeing a steady decline in sales of both the Nintendo DS and the Wii in the last few months and launching a bundle built around Mario will probably help push numbers up just in time for Christmas.
