Microsoft continues to sell 100,000 copies per day of the Natural User Interface (NUI) sensor for its Xbox consoles. According to the latest data supplied by the Redmond company, Kinect for Xbox 360 still enjoys strong momentum even as it approaches the first month after launch.

On Cyber Monday, just after Thanksgiving and Black Friday, the software giant revealed that it had already sold in excess of 2 .5 Million Kinect sensors.

“We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand,” noted Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft.

Fact is that the increase in sales brought by Black Friday was credited with the jump in demand for the new NUI peripheral for Xbox 360.

Microsoft is at this point in time half-way-there in terms of the sales goal it established for Kinect for Xbox 360.

“With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this holiday,” Mattrick added.

Kinect for Xbox 360 was released in North America on November 4th, 2010, the first million units shipped to customers in just the first day. Subsequently, the sensor was offered to gamers in additional markets, including Europe.

Users in no less than 38 countries around the world can now buy Kinect for Xbox 360 in more than 60,000 retailers.

Since launch, earlier this month, Kinect for Xbox 360 has enjoyed a strong market success and positive reviews, with gamers expressing delight over the ability to play games and control their consoles using gestures and voice.

“Kinect on Xbox 360 was a top performer at Target this weekend,” added Nik Nayar, vice president, merchandising, Target.

“We expect Kinect will be a must-have gift this holiday season, so Target will continue to receive consistent shipments of Kinect throughout December. The hands-free, active gaming experience that Kinect offers is something that everyone in the family can enjoy.”
