14 DAY TRIAL // The Humane Society of the United States is pleased to announce that several dogs and puppies have recently been rescued from a suspected puppy mill in North Carolina.
In a press release on the matter at hand, the organization details that the pooches were kept at a facility in the state's Alexander County.
Employees of the Humane Society of the United States and the Humane Society of Charlotte arrived in the area and helped rescue the animals after having been called in by local police officials.
The latter served a search and seizure warrant on the property, and representatives of the two animal-friendly groups took care of locating and removing the dogs.
By the looks of it, the facility's owner did not oppose the raid, and instead agreed to willingly part with the dogs and puppies found on their property.
While inspecting the suspected puppy mill, authorities and animal rights activists working with said two organizations found that the dogs and the puppies lacked access to food and clean water.
Besides, it appears that they were in poor health and were therefore in dire need of medical attention. The pooches lived in awful conditions, and few of them had protection against the cold weather.
“The deplorable conditions these dogs were forced to live in are heartbreaking – we’re grateful to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office for taking swift action and letting us help rescue these animals,” said the North Carolina State Director for the Humane Society of the United States, Kim Alboum.
“This is the 16th puppy mill we’ve rescued animals from since June 2011. We’re hopeful North Carolina legislators will stop this terrible suffering in 2014 by passing stronger laws to protect these animals,” the animals rights activist added.
The pooches have all been taken to a temporary shelter. Veterinarians are to assess their overall health condition, and offer them appropriate treatment for the conditions they are suffering with.
It is to be expected that, at some point in the future, the dogs will be put up for adoption.
Interestingly enough, the Humane Society of the United States says that a parrot was rescued together with these 23 pooches.
