NEC really seems to like its MultiSync series, since it launches a new member for it every other week or so. The latest to make its appearance is the mercury-free MultiSync E224Wi-BK.

The MultiSync line of monitors is made for business users, and it includes all the features expected of products that are supposed to both serve well and cut down on resources.

Which is to say, the newcomer is compliant with ENERGY STAR 6.0 and TCO 6.0 specifications, and is EPEAT Silver rated too.

The LED backlighting is largely responsible for the generally low energy requirements, but MultiSync E224Wi-BK can even enter an ECO mode, and has a carbon footprint meter that shows you how much of an impact it's having on the environment.

"The MultiSync E224Wi display is an ideal tool to help business professionals be more productive and achieve their core objectives - all within the scope of an attractive total cost of ownership," said Kevin Christopherson, director of product marketing for desktop displays at NEC Display Solutions.

"LED backlighting and a host of other environmentally sound features like a carbon footprint meter speak to NEC's leadership in environmentally friendly displays."

Spec-wise, the AH-IPS LCD provides the newcomer with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and wide viewing angles (178/178 degrees, apparently).

For input, NEC included a DisplayPort, VGA and DVI-D capability, and made it possible to integrate touch support as well. You won't get a touch panel by default though.

As for the stand, it is the sort that allows the screen to rotate, switching from landscape to portrait mode whenever necessary.

All in all, the NEC MultiSync E224Wi, though not spectacular in terms of color reproduction, should be fine for anyone working at the office. Sales should start this month (October 2013) for $199 / €199.
