Apple will unveil its new-generation iPhones tomorrow, and the company is also expected to announce the dates when these devices can be pre-ordered and then purchased from stores.

A leak that’s making the rounds right now indicates that Apple plans to begin shipping the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Plus/Max on September 21, which is the second Friday after the event.

These details come via an Italian carrier who has sent an internal memo regarding Apple’s product launch, suggesting that September 21 could indeed be the date when new iPhones start shipping to customers who pre-ordered them.

Very important to know, however, is that these reports also suggest that Apple might begin shipping the more affordable iPhone configuration on September 21 as well. Recent speculation on the iPhone front, however, indicated that a certain delay is likely for this model due to production struggles.

The name of this iPhone is still uncertain at this point, as some sources claimed Apple wants to call it iPhone XC, while others indicated that the iPhone XR is also under consideration.

The September 21 date

Whatever its name will be, the cheaper iPhone could go on sale later this month due to the said challenges, and what’s more, it may only be available in limited numbers at first. This is exactly what happened with the iPhone X last year, when the device went on sale later than the iPhone 8 and was originally sold in limited quantities across the globe.

Of course, the September 21 shipping date is by no means surprising. Apple’s typical release schedule includes the first Friday after the event as the kick-off for pre-orders, while the second Friday marks the beginning of shipments.

Most likely, the same schedule will be used this year as well, so expect the first units to arrive at the customers’ doors on September 21. We’re still waiting for a word from Apple on when the cheaper model would ship, however.
