Apple rolled out refreshed models of the MacBook Pro 13 during the “Spring Forward” event a few weeks ago, when it also unveiled the new Retina MacBook, the first laptop to arrive with a USB Type-C connector.

Going back to the new MacBook Pro 13, you’d think Cupertino would strive to offer the best experience to users, especially since we’re talking about a machine selling for a price above $1,000 / €921.

But the reality of things proves to be a little bit different. A bunch of users of the 2015 MacBook 13 have taken to the Mac Rumors forums to complain about experiencing user interface lag in the OS X Yosemite powering the laptop.

However, we should note that not all 2015 MacBook Pro 13 models are affected by the issue.

Are the new MacBook Pros continuing the pattern established by earlier models?

The lag plaguing the new devices consists of slow or choppy animations and graphics in multiple scenarios, including opening Mission Control or Launchpad, accessing applications, resizing Windows, and scrolling up and down several webpages.

A user has taken the time to film a short video demonstrating the problem and we have embedded it for you below, so you can get an idea.

By browsing the topics associated with the problem, it becomes apparent that UI lag is not a stranger to MacBook users. Some owners who have already been through the situation are offering possible workarounds for the annoyance.

Similar reports centering on the older MacBook Pro models are also coming to us via the Apple Support Communities, Reddit and Stack Exchange, so is this a pattern?

Some possible solutions

For example, we’re advised to reset the Mac’s PRAM or increase contrast and reduce transparency (settings to be found under the Accessibility menu in System Preferences).

You should probably take into consideration that the new Macs might be affected by slow performance after booting up for the first time, as the computer indexes.

Affected users might also want to perform a clean install of OS X Yosemite to make sure the problems are not caused by a backup being restored.

One particular user claims that the new MacBook Pro is the laggiest out of all the Yosemite laptops he ever owned.
