Rapper Ludacris has just scored a major success by landing the role of host at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, a position which is surely going to suit the outspoken musician.

The criteria on which Ludacris was chosen to host are not known, but it may have something to do with the fact that he's been an enduring presence on the hip-hop scene, with 18 hot 100 top 10 singles in the US, which puts him at number three in the top of all-time hip-hop musicians.

Let's not forget that he's also the producer on five number one albums on the Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart, making him one of the more serious contenders in this respect.

The musician is currently working on a cinematic project, the shooting on the latest episode of the “Fast & Furious” franchise which started again back in April after it was delayed due to the death of main actor Paul Walker in a car crash.

But that's not everything he's working on these days. Ludracris also has a studio album in the works, “Ludaversal,” which is supposed to be released later this year in fall.

Apart from Ludracris hosting the awards, some of the confirmed live acts on the night of the event are Shakira, 5 Seconds of Summer, Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, Imagine Dragons, Jason Derulo, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, Lorde, Miley Cyrus, One Republic, Pitbull and Ricky Martin.

The 2014 Billboard Music Awards are scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 18, in Las Vegas.
