IBM has released an infographic for the 2013 Cyber Security Intelligence Index, a study that reviews the global threat landscape.

According to the report, over the course of a week, a single organization faces around 1,400 attacks. The average number of incidents per week is 1.7.

Most attacks have been targeted at organizations from the following industries: manufacturing (26.5%), finance and insurance (20.9%), information and communication (18.7%), health and social services (7.3%), and retail and wholesale (6.6%).

Two of the most common types of attacks, accounting for over 60% of all incidents, are malware attacks and reconnaissance operations.

While close to half of cyberattacks are opportunistic, 23% of them are part of industrial espionage, terrorism, financial crime and data theft campaigns. Dissatisfaction with the employer or the job, and social activism are also common motives.
