The Recording Academy has announced its 2012 Special Merit Awards recipients, of whom the late Steve Jobs received this year’s Trustees Award for “outstanding contributions to the industry in a nonperforming capacity.”

According to the official announcement over at grammy.com, this year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipients are Allman Brothers Band, Glen Campbell, Antonio Carlos Jobim, George Jones, the Memphis Horns, Diana Ross, and Gil Scott-Heron.

The listed Trustees Award honorees are Dave Bartholomew, Steve Jobs and Rudy Van Gelder. Receiving this year's Technical GRAMMY Award are Celemony and Roger Nichols, The Recording Academy said.

"This year's honorees offer a variety of brilliance, contributions and lasting impressions on our culture," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. "It is an honor to recognize such a diverse group of individuals whose talents and achievements have had an indelible impact on our industry."

The ceremony will be held during GRAMMY Week on Feb. 11, 2012. The event will be invitation-only and there will be a formal acknowledgment during the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast.

Earlier this year, the Academy released the following statement highlighting Steve Jobs’ contributions to the industry, shortly after his passing:

Visionary, pioneer, innovator, genius — all of these words and more have been used to describe the dynamic, passionate, and driven Steve Jobs, who always believed, and often proved, that the impossible was possible. He took technology and turned it into art, becoming a key player and leader in the entertainment world, particularly music, and changing the way we all use the Internet and consume music, TV, movies, books, graphics, and more. In 2002, Apple Computer, Inc. was a recipient of the Technical GRAMMY Award for contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field — which the groundbreaking company continues to achieve to this day. The world has lost an inspiring and creative inventor whose extraordinary legacy will forever remain present in our lives. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, his friends, and the outstanding employees of Apple who will continue to honor his memory and vision.
