Electronic Arts has announced that it will release the official videogame simulation of the football World Cup set to take place in June in South Africa. Officially titled 2010 FIFA World Cup, the football game will arrive on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation Portable handheld and various mobile devices. Gamers in North America will be able to pick up the title on April 27, while those who are playing in Europe and in Asia will get it three days later.

EA Sports is saying that 2010 FIFA World Cup will fully simulate all the 199 national teams that took part in the initial stages in the qualifying process, while featuring additional attention on those teams who are qualified for the final part of the tournament.

The ten stadiums that will host games in South Africa are rendered as close to reality as possible and a variety of stadiums on which qualifying matches took place will also be simulated. EA Sports is aiming to reproduce the atmosphere that the World Cup will have in South Africa, complete with fans from all nations, fireworks, confetti throwing and musical instruments.

It's not clear how much the actual gameplay will be changed from that seen in FIFA 10, which arrived in the second half of 2009, but apparently altitude will have more of an impact, while setting different and coherent team strategies for home and away games will also make an impact.

EA Sports is revealing that it plans to so something special with the Nintendo Wii version of the game stating that it will “celebrate the cultural vibrancy of the first FIFA World Cup TM to be held in Africa, EA SPORTS 2010 FIFA World Cup on the Wii is an action-packed football game that brings friends together in their living rooms to compete for the 2010 FIFA World Cup TM. Travel around the world virtually to take on all 32 nations competing in South Africa in head-to-head challenges in Zakumi’s Dream Team mode.”
