For many people from all over the world, the personal computer has become the nexus of their home multimedia experiences (when they're not using a HTPC or media center PC, that is), opening the gates towards the wealth of content available online, and for this reason, PC speakers are also still very important, especially when they combine advanced features and capabilities with a very attractive design, as is the case with the latest such product from Hercules, the XPS 101 2.1 audio system. First and foremost, we'll have to point out the fact that the XPS 101 system sports a very stylish and elegant design, with the rounded satellites sporting a black lacquer finish, with metal back sections and transparent "floating" stands at the bottom, while the subwoofer is covered with stylish, dual layer black Lycra fabric, and crowned by a metal plate on top. The wooden subwoofer houses 3 drivers, namely one 6’’ main active driver, and two 6’’ passive pressure drivers, this non-ported design taking up minimum space, while providing the quick response time of compact drivers and all of the deep bass generally reproduced by a large driver. The satellites feature high-performance wideband drivers, which - combined with the speakers’ rounded shape, in which air has room to expand - ensure enveloping, rich and clear sound, with very good treble and mid-range frequencies' reproduction. Hercules XPS 101 provides 101 watts RMS of output power and also includes a wired "pulse" remote control that is very intuitive and easy to use, providing precise control of both bass and treble levels, in order to satisfy even the most demanding ears. So, users will only have to press once to power on the system and adjust the master volume, press again to adjust the bass and press a third time to adjust the treble. Furthermore, blue backlighting and LEDs - Hercules’ signature touch - guide the user through the adjustments. It's also quite important to mention that users can connect an MP3 player, headphones, a game console and even a headset (using the included cables) directly to the XPS 101 system. Since we're talking about a rather high-end 2.1-channel speaker system, it should come as no surprise that pricing for the Hercules XPS 101 isn't exactly mainstream-friendly, users having to cough up around 200 Euro for the entire set.
