Agile Web Solutions and Hamrick Software have both released maintenance updates for their flagship products, 1Password and VueScan. The former, a powerful password manager and form filler designed exclusively for Mac users, adds support for syncing with 1Password for iPad. The latter, a cross-platform scanning application developed by Ed Hamrick, now boasts improved automatic cropping.

The desktop version of 1Password integrates directly into most browsers (Firefox, Camino, OmniWeb, DEVONagent, NetNewsWire, as well as Apple's own Safari), and sports built-in, anti-phishing and keylogger protection. Using the app, Mac owners can easily manage hundreds of passwords with one key. The software is updated on a regular basis. Besides adding support for syncing with 1Password for iPad, Agile Web Solutions has also addressed a number of bugs, and changed the app’s behavior in certain situations. For example, 1Password 3.1 mp longer lists Smart Folders in sync windows.

VueScan 8.6.23, the second update we’re here to talk about, brings customers improved automatic cropping, fixed problems with Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and a printing command placed at the upper-left corner (instead of center), the changelog reveals. VueScan supports flatbed and film scanners, as well as several digital camera RAW file types. The program automatically adjusts images to an optimum color balance, which reduces the need to work in Photoshop, according to Hamrick Software.

VueScan includes a built-in color calibration of scanners, and offers options for scanning faded slides and prints, batch scanning, IT8 color calibration and other advanced scanning features, and supports more than 100 brands of negative films. To upgrade an existing copy of VueScan, customers simply need to download the latest version from either the developer’s website or Softpedia, double-click the resulted DMG file, and drag the new version to their Applications folder.
