Agile Web Solutions has released a new version of its password manager and form filler for Mac OS X, 1Password. Working seamlessly in modern web browsers like Apple’s Safari, as well as Firefox, Camino, and Flock, 1Password stores all of one's information into the built-in Keychain. Adding a user agent for Firefox 3.6 betas to avoid reporting error installing the Firefox extension in some cases, and a dozen other changes, the new release is not particularly recommended for those who like to keep things stable, but the changelog is worth a glance.

Nevertheless, those who perform maintenance on the software claim, “This is an upgrade to 1Password 3 with several improvements and bug fixes” and that, “This is a recommended update.” 1Password 3.0.2 Beta 1 is free for all licensed 1Password 3 users. So, now that everyone’s confused, let’s see what the new release brings.

Besides adding a user agent for Firefox 3.6 betas to avoid reporting errors, Agile has also improved the vertical spacing of identities sections; moved the thumbnail image up to better align paperclip; replaced 'Lock/Unlock Keychain' language with 'Lock/Unlock 1Password;' updated AppShelf importer instructions so that AppShelf can export its own plist format; made hyperlink domain text color black when hover-copy button is shown; and fixed a crash that could occur when editing very large secure notes. 1PasswordAnywhere changes include:

- now concealing passwords in Generated Passwords section. - now concealing Login passwords in rare case where the field is not of type password but has a password designation. - now clearing all shown data on lock to prevent back button from ever showing unencrypted data. - enabled help button. - now detecting problems loading encryption keys and showing informational message. - can now reveal passwords that contain special characters.

1Password 3 requires the Agile Keychain data format. Users are required to make sure they upgrade their 1Password data to the new format before installing 1Password 3. There is also a mobile version of the application. The iPhone client, appropriately named 1Password Touch, securely stores a website’s names and passwords.
