Microsoft is working on all kinds of new cool things for Windows 11, but at the same time, the company is also focused on improving its first-party apps with the essential feature package.

And as it turns out, one of these essential features for Windows 11 users is the ability to play audio CDs.

Not a long time ago, Microsoft launched a new Media Player app for Windows 11, and just as expected, it features a modern UI that aligns with the new operating system.

Since then, Microsoft has been trying to further polish the experience with the app by refining the existing features and adding new capabilities. A few days ago, the company added support for playing audio CDs in the app.

“We have rolled out an update for Media Player (Version 11.2202.42.0) that brings support for CD playback. We’ve also made improvements to better adapt to theme changes and to the media content drag and drop experience,” the company announced.

Full focus on multimedia content

Microsoft said from the very beginning that its main focus when developing this new app was to make it as convenient as possible to listen to and watch multimedia content on Windows 11 devices. So the new feature kind of makes sense, though it’d certainly be interesting to know just how many people still use audio CDs these days.

“We designed the new Media Player to make listening to and watching your multimedia content more enjoyable on Windows 11, and we’re really excited to introduce it to all of you! Media Player beautifully showcases your local music and video collections and compliments the new look and feel of Windows 11,” Microsoft explains.

The new feature is currently available for insiders, but it should become available to everyone in the upcoming Windows 11 updates.
