Just days ago, doctors in Beijing, China's capital city, performed surgery on a man who had a monstrous tumor growing out of his back and extending down his right leg, and managed to remove the abnormal tissue growth in its entirety.

Information shared with the public says the man is now feeling much better, and is expected to soon make a full recover from this surgical intervention and be allowed to return home to friends and family.

According to Daily Mail, the patient, identified as 37-year-old Yang Jianbin from China's Shanxi Province, first started making regular visits to the hospital when he was only a child.

Thus, it was when he was about 9 years old that a dark mark that he was born with and that sat on the right side of his lower back started to develop and eventually grew into a tumor about the size of a fist, the same source explains.

When the 37-year-old man's birthmark first started acting out, surgeons operated on him and had the fairly small tumor removed. Young Yang Jianbin did not take long to recover from this intervention, and was soon released from hospital.

However, over the years, the right side of his lower back once again developed an abnormal tissue growth. In time, the Yang Jianbin's tumor not only made a comeback, but grew to weigh approximately 17 stone (about 108 kilograms).

As explained in the report documenting this case, the tumor, whose diameter reached 1.2 meters (nearly 4 feet) came to engulf the man's lower limbs, making it downright impossible for the 37-year-old to look after himself and move about without help from others.

In order to remove this monstrous tumor, a team of 9 doctors had to keep Yang Jianbin in surgery for 16 hours in a row. During this time, they had to pump about 5,000 milliliters of blood into the 37-year-old man, and thus managed to keep him alive.

Now that he no longer carries the abnormal tissue growth on its back, the man is expected to have an easier time going about his business. What's more, chances are that his overall health condition will improve to a considerable extent. Should all go well, the 37-year-old will be sent home later this month.

According to the doctors in charge of seeing this case through, Yang Jianbin developed the impressive tumor due to a rare medical condition known as neurofibromatosis. This condition is classified as a genetic disorder, and has been documented to cause abnormal growth and development of tissues in the body.
