Now, this we can call a treat from Apple. The electronics giant has just updated its iPhone and iPod touch lineup. The 16GB iPhone and 32GB iPod touch are already available for purchase up on Apple's website, at the Apple Store. Of course, in doubling the storage capacity for the two popular portable systems, the Cupertino-based corporation has upped the retail price by a Benjamin Franklin for each gadget.

According to the official report, the latest iPhone features 16 gigs of memory and goes for $499. The single formerly available 8 GB version of the hybrid cell phone, multimedia player and wireless Internet device, currently retails for $399. As for the new 32GB iPod touch, Apple Store lists it as available for 499 American currency, while the old 16 GB and 8 GB versions of the multimedia combo gadget still cost 399 and 299 bucks respectively.

While the new iPod touch, featuring an enhanced 32GB storage capacity, is available only via the Apple Store, the updated 16gig iPhone is available both through Apple Store and AT&T Inc.'s online and retail stores.

So, now you'll be able to store double the movies, pictures, music and apps on any of the two devices for a hundred dollars more. The two systems are likely going to be purchased by non-iPod and/or iPhone owners, since they cost pretty damn much! Then again, tech-blooded chaps are already trying to get a good price on their iPod touch/iPhone, so they can run to the Apple Store and get the updated devices ASAP.

Apple has also confirmed that all iPhone and iPod Touch models ship with the latest firmware update, which includes the new maps application and the ability to watch movies from the iTunes movie rental service.
