Police closing down Minnesota middle schools yesterday have located the student who made the original 911 call that prompted the massive operation.

As I posted at the time, officials in New Prague intervened in the early morning after someone reported a gunman carrying an AK-47 who had allegedly wounded two people in a middle school classroom.

The whole thing turned out to be a prank and the caller was identified as a 12-year-old boy and arrested. He is in police custody, where he will remain until his bail hearing is set for either today or tomorrow.

The Star Tribune reveals that he made a second 911 call four minutes after the first one, possibly with the intent to set off the police search.

He said he was inside New Prague Middle School and mentioned the Central Education Campus in his second call.

Hundreds of students were sent home and their parents were alerted about a shooter possibly being inside the school with their children. If convicted, the 12-year-old can be sent away to a juvenile facility, according to Minnesota law.
