An 11-year-old kid named Cameron has managed to get an app through Apple’s thorough reviewing process, and is now donating some of the proceeds from the sales to a children’s hospital. iSketch is a drawing app for iPhone and iPod touch that allows its user to select different kinds of brushes, and features an advanced color picker. iSketch also offers the ability to save or email one's drawings. It costs $0.99.

“Inspired by the care I received at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital, I have dedicated a portion of the proceeds from the sales of iSketch to purchase entertainment and electronic items for Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA’s Child Life/Child Development programs in Westwood and Santa Monica so that pre-teens and teens will have additional age-appropriate options available to them during their Hospital stays,” Cameron reveals in the app's official description.

The main features of iSketch include: - Advanced RGB/HSV/HEX spectrum; - Quick selection [of] color palettes; - Many brushes and brush sizes; - Easily add text to drawings; - Detailed FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions); - Save drawings to your photo library; - Email drawings.

In light of his son’s feat, Cameron’s father sent a letter to CrunchGear, the site originally reporting the news. In the letter, Cameron’s father reveals how his 11-year-old boy was forced to leave physical activities aside for a while during which time he taught himself programming. “Cameron began to focus on the iPhone and iPod touch devices as the ‘apps’ offered for sale for use on those devices seemed really cool to him,” he writes. Cameron applied what he had learned using the iPhone SDK and created iSketch. “The app, which is a painting/drawing program, was approved by Apple for sale on its App Store in December. (He has since updated it several times..),” the kid’s father outlines.

He also tells the story of how Cameron was inspired to dedicate some of the proceeds from his iSketch sales to improving the lives of other kids. “Cameron’s sales so far have been good, but he hopes to accelerate them so that he can donate even more to the Hospital,” he adds.

iSketch requires an iPhone or iPod touch and iPhone software version 3.0.
