Despite the fact that there's no ship, no plan and no money

The Mars One project, which promises to send several people on a one-way trip to Mars, has certainly gotten plenty of interest, more so than more interesting and certainly more valuable projects by private companies tackling space exploration.

But it's not hard to understand why, the human angle of the story is very interesting, everyone wants to know who would give up everything just to make it to our neighboring planet.

It turns out, quite a lot of people, as the company has announced that it's gotten well over 100,000 applications.

The mission has its fair share of dangers, more than most space missions at least. That's because, as it stands, it's nothing more than a vague plan.

Mars One would send people to Mars, a trip that could prove fatal just from the radiation astronauts will endure, on a ship that doesn't exist yet and where they'll have to survive with a local food and water supply which aren't possible at this point. All of this has to be built with money that doesn't yet exist.

But the mission has been successful in at least some ways, each applicant has to pay for the admission, so Mars One has already made quite a bit of money. Nowhere near enough to pay for the trip, but enough to make a few people quite wealthy.
