Getting paid 150,000 Australian dollars (roughly $100,000) to hang around beautiful beaches all day long doesn't seem such a bad thing. That's exactly what the tourism department in the Australian state of Queensland thinks, so it pushed forward a position of island caretaker, which will be paid with the aforementioned sum. The contract will last for about 6 months, during which time the winner of the contest to begin soon will have a chance to explore the wonderful landscapes of Hamilton Island, part of the country's largest Whitsunday Islands.

The main purpose of the “vacation” is to document the island, from a touristic standpoint, meaning that all you, the potential winner, have to do is carry a camera around with you all day long and photograph various portions of the island. In the evening, the caretaker will have to note his or her impressions down in a web blog, designed specifically to attract tourists to the Australian location. And if you think that you might run out of inspiration after a month or two, check out what the island has to offer.

According to the Queensland tourism department, snorkeling, pool dipping, hikes and magnificent sceneries come in the same package as the new position. Sunsets are advertised to be absolutely gorgeous, so the winner of the contest will have numerous occasions to “capitalize” on that. On the blog that will advertise the island, the administrator will be able to post videos of how he or she spent the day, as well as still photos of landscapes, or any other thing, for that matter.

"It'll be huge," says Peter O'Reilly, who is the chief executive of the Whitsundays Tourism department, saying that he and colleagues expect thousand of people around the world to join the selection process. They say that a person free of contract, who would like to spend an enjoyable summer, will be most suited for the position.

According to the officials, the preliminary phases of the selection process will close February 22nd, by which time 11 finalists will have been selected from all applications. The winners will be flown to Hamilton Island, where the final phase of the competition will take place. The big winner will be expected to start his or her round as caretaker on July 1st.
